A NEW map has been unveiled in Amersham-on-the-Hill which is designed to celebrate the town's history, amenties and heritage.

Amersham's Deputy Mayor Jane Barnes officially revealed the map to reisdents at Oakfield Corner, next to the Metropolitan 1 train installation.

The Metroland-inspired map has been organised by the Amersham Action Group volunteers.

The size A0 map will help visitors not only to navigate the town, but also shows points of interest, ‘Did you know?’ facts as well as lost landmarks such as the Regent Cinema.

The new map unveiled also features a QR code which quickly and easily connects visitors to the Visit Amersham website.

The Metroland-inspired design has been used to help acknowledge Amersham-on-the-Hill as an area which came into being through the arrival of the Metropolitan Railway line in 1892.

Leading the development of this new map was AAG volunteer and local historical writer, Alison Bailey, who said, ‘We hope that this new addition to our town literally puts Amersham-on-the-Hill on the map and is enjoyed by both residents and visitors alike.’

She added: "This was a real team effort with special thanks to Ron Newell of the AAG who worked so hard on the project and our wonderful artist Livi Gosling who understood the brief and has given the map a distinctive Thirties, Metroland feel with the colours and her drawings.

"She was very patient with our last minute alterations, making the final change just after giving birth to a beautiful baby girl! Special thanks too to Steve Catanach of Amersham Council who helped us through the red tape and solved the tricky issue of where to site it."

Amersham’s Deputy Mayor, Janes Barnes said: "I think people will enjoy finding out more about where they live and work."
