A HUSBAND and wife feel "humbled" to have the kind and generous support from the local community after their cafe got broken into over the weekend.

The Crew Cafe in Wades park, Stratton Road, experienced a break-in on Saturday night where two men were seen walking into the kitchen on CCTV.

Owner Steve received a notification that the alarm set off.

He said: "The alarm triggered and I had a look at the cameras and couldn't see anything around. I reset it and it set it again. I then went and got into the shower and the alarm went off again. I went and looked to see someone walking into the kitchen.

"I basically got ready dressed and jumped in the car and found the front windows were smashed. They'd gone by that point."

The would-be thieves managed to smash the window of the cafe but luckily nothing was stolen.

The cafe closed on Sunday, March 26, for police to carry out their investigations and reopened today (March 27).

Steve's wife Kim said: "We both feel gutted as we've built that business from nothing and it's almost like home as we've done everything ourselves and feel slightly violated that someone has gone in there.

"I feel blessed because no members of staff were there so no one risked their lives. We put it on Facebook to see if anyone had any information and it’s just shown us really that we’re doing something right as the support we had has made us feel better."

The cafe opened 18 months ago as a family-run business, with Kim having lived in Princes Risborough for 30 years.

Despite the incident, Kim said she still feels "really safe" living in this area of Buckinghamshire.

"What I love about Risborough is that it’s a real community town and it's a nice place for children. You always feel really safe.

“But we're all a bit jumpy and it does emotionally affect you. In my head I can never work out why someone would want to take belongings from somebody else, I don’t understand that mentality.

"You struggle to not take it personally but it hasn't stopped our love for the area as the support from our community restored our faith in humanity and the love we felt from everyone around us was a silver lining.

"We just like to take a positive from it. There was no staff, the building was empty, and no member of the team's life will be impacted by it.

"Money is money, we'll earn more money next week.”

Steve and Kim thanked residents for their support and wanted to reiterate the break-in had nothing to do with youngsters in the area.

Kim added: "This was not an attack by the youths. We get on with the youngsters, they don’t have anything to do and wear their hoods up and they get battering which isn’t fair as people are assuming it's 'youths'. These are good children who offer to help clear our tables."
