A social worker who grew up in High Wycombe claims Harry Potter actor Tom Felton copied his original TikTok song without giving him credit.

Ollie Bates, who grew up in High Wycombe, said the actor, who played Draco Malfoy in the famous JK Rowling series, copied his original song 'The Magic Mechanic' without giving credit, seemingly intending to pass it off as his own creation.

Ollie said he wrote the song and uploaded it to his Instagram and TikTok accounts last year before receiving a message from actor Tom Felton this March, praising his work.

"He messaged me asking if I would mind him covering the song and shortly afterwards, I saw that he'd posted it publicly on Instagram and changed its name to 'Dear Harry'.

"Like other songs I had posted, it was a parody of Harry Potter, and was about Harry growing tired of the magic world and wanting to live a normal life in London as a mechanic.

"Tom also changed a couple of the lyrics so it was from the perspective of his character, Draco Malfoy, rather than Harry."

Ollie said that he messaged Tom, politely thanking him for covering the song, but asked to be credited properly, to which he received no reply.

Two days later, the Draco Malfoy actor also posted the cover to his TikTok account, again without crediting Ollie as the original writer.

"All I wanted was for him to make it clear that he was covering my work and maybe post a link to the original song, but he never did.

"His TikTok now has over a million views and nearly 5000 comments, all of which are complimenting him for the lyrics and music.

"He hasn't credited me anywhere on TikTok or responded to a single comment to clarify that it's a cover of my work and not written by him."

Ollie, who is employed as a social worker in the Cayman Islands and works alongside victims of crisis and homelessness, said the lack of credit was made worse by the actor's high level of celebrity.

"It's sad that I have to try to bring attention to this.

"He's a very wealthy, famous actor with a huge online presence and I'm a low-paid social worker with no profile.

"It's disappointing that he would try to pass my work off as his own."

Tom Felton has been contacted for a comment.
