Residents in Marlow have been left concerned after persistent and heavy rain left roads around the town flooded.

Fieldhouse Lane in Marlow has been closed after recent downpours made motorist access impossible, in what one resident described as “the worst flooding in eleven years”.

Steve Webb said flooding in the area was reaching unmanageable levels, with those living nearby using sandbags to minimise potential water damage.

Fieldhouse Lane in Marlow has experienced flooding issues since 2016, with the road being closed by Transport for Buckinghamshire multiple times over the last seven years for emergency draining operations.

Bucks Fire & Rescue closed the area and pumped water into empty drains on the corner of Dedmere Road in June 2021, in what residents believe was a highly effective solution.

Dedmere Road and Fieldhouse Lane most recently experienced heavy flooding on Thursday, March 30 and, prior to that, on March 18, with residents’ gardens accumulating significant amounts of water.

Mr Webb said that the area experiences heavy flooding even after modest rainfall and throughout all seasons.

Buckinghamshire Council announced a Newt Ditch Flood Alleviation Scheme in January of this year, which includes planned repairs to pipelines on Dedmere Road and the construction of a new manhole at a nearby junction.

Planners said they aim to obtain permission to begin works by next spring, with construction expected to commence in early 2025.

However, Steve Webb said he thought these plans were not addressing the urgent nature of the situation.

He said: “Immediate and pragmatic solutions are needed, that can be implemented right now to ease the pressure and sense of overwhelming anxiety that residents are experiencing.”

He added: “We are very grateful for the support of local Councillor Jocelyn Towns and our MP Joy Morrissey, who are representing our cause."
