The new ULEZ area has expanded close to the Buckinghamshire border.

Designed to boost air quality, ULEZ has expand to all London boroughs from today (August 29).

Pollutants from road transport are impacting people’s health in the capital, including an increased risk of cancer, asthma and lung disease caused by tiny particles.

However, Mayor of London’s decision to expand ULEZ zone near Buckinghamshire border has sparked concern from county leaders and residents.

Wycombe MP Steve Baker said: “When a local man came to see me who works at Heathrow who travels to Heathrow at times which are not supported by public transport and can only afford an older van for travelling I hear it’s absolutely disastrous to his finances to have to pay the charge to get to Heathrow.”

Buckinghamshire Council has expressed concern over impact on county roads due to increase in traffic if drivers tried to avoid the ULEZ area.

Buckinghamshire towns are popular among commuters working in London and Heathrow, which will be within the new ULEZ area.

The Buckinghamshire neighbourhoods nearest to the ULEZ border include Gerrards Cross, Denham, Chalfont St Peter and Iver.

Buckinghamshire resident John Stone commented on Bucks Free Press Facebook page:

“I am a pensioner and I run an old car, because I can't afford a new one and yet I have to pay £200 plus a year for my car tax, together with someone who has a new car, paying a lot less than I do, so I feel this is grossly unfair.

“If I have to pay a fee of £12 50 every time I visit the town, I want a big reduction in my car tax.

“Also, if I have to give up my car, I also demand a decent bus service for my village, Radnage.

“We have nothing here, not now even a pub. Without a car here we would be isolated. So council, I will give you something to think about.”
