A MOTHER is urging councillors to reduce the speed limit of a busy country road after witnessing three serious accidents.

The 51-year-old has stepped up her campaign for New Road, Lacey Green, to have its speed limit reduced after a girl sadly died when she was hit by a car travelling at 60mph.

Sue Sidley of Main Road, said: "It basically started off when a driver had his car written off outside my house. Then another car got written off because people drive too fast.

"A lady called Edith had to jump out of the way from a speeding car and had cracked her ribs and cut her leg open and her arm.

"A new village shop is opening and a lot of the elderly are scared of going to use it.

"The recent speed surveys in Lacey Green showed that the majority of vehicles were travelling above 40mph (in the 30mph area) with some in excess of 60mph near the primary school.

"There are numerous crashes along both New and Main Road and it’s a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt.

"I just worry, my husband runs along the road. I'm just worried, a girl was killed and I know some of her relatives."

The artist and graphic designer fears for her children who walk to school, with her youngest attending St Johns Church of England Primary School, which is also in support of the campaign.

"A lot of parents who park where it changes from 60mph to 30mph park right next to the 60mph zone getting their kids out of the car. It's really frustrating because there are not a lot of places to park, but at least we can make it safer by reducing the speed limit to 40mph on New Road.

Bucks Free Press:

Sue hopes by lowering the limit to 40mph on New Road would make it easier for drivers transitioning into the 30mph speed limit into Main Road instead of drivers having to harshly break at 60mph when entering the 30mph zone.

"A lot of people doing 60mph come into 30mph and slam on their brakes. We have no street lights so during winter there are cars parked around the side of the road and cars just land in to the back of parked cars.

"We also need a zebra crossing from the school and for the churchgoers. It's a very busy village with a lot of walking routes as well as dog walkers and ramblers, very used."

Bucks Free Press:

Sue said the situation has caused a lot of anger with "residents arguing with school parents.

Adding: "Every 16 minutes someone is killed or seriously injured on UK roads - we don’t want Lacey Green to add to this statistic, therefore help us to prevent a serious accident."

The online petition is running until May 11 and has 194 signatures in support already.
