A mum in Beaconsfield said her children do not feel safe in their house after a huge sinkhole appeared in their garden overnight.

Danielle Murray of Rowan Close in Beaconsfield said her daughter discovered a huge sinkhole in their garden yesterday morning (April 18).

"She went to let the dog out and called, 'Mummy, mummy, there's a hole!' so I went to look.

"The night before, it all looked completely normal and then, out of nowhere, this massive sinkhole was there."

Danielle said she immediately contacted L&Q, her housing provider, and they sent someone to check the property at 4pm yesterday to ensure the area was safe.

When the L&Q representative put his tape measure down the sinkhole, Danielle said, he found that it was over six metres deep.

"He put a little barrier around it and some wood and sandbags over the top. He said today there would be a surveyor coming to talk about the next steps, but when I called them today, they said no one was scheduled to come.

"After I told them about the situation, they said they would send someone out on an available day but it's just not good enough."

Bucks Free Press:

Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue services were called to the house at 12:48pm today (April 19) after Danielle's daughter's tutor recommended she contact them.

Danielle said that while officers said there wasn't much they could do due to a lack of specific training, they did admit it was one of the worst sinkholes they had ever seen.

"The fireman said: 'I don't think your house is going to fall through, but I don't feel that it's safe for you to stay here.'"

She added that her primary concern is for her children, who have told her they are afraid of the house being swallowed up in another sinkhole.

"I'm really scared but the worst feeling in the world is to hear your children say how unsafe they feel - how they don't want to be in the house because they might die or the dog might die.

"It's absolutely awful because I try to reassure them but I don't know what's going to happen."

Bucks Fire and Rescue said: "At around 12:48pm today, one appliance and crew from Beaconsfield responded to a report of a dangerous structure in Rowan Close, Holtspur. Their services were not required."

L&Q has been contacted for comment.
