A police horse who was savagely attacked by an out-of-control dog in London is receiving care in Buckinghamshire after suffering "several wounds" to his legs, chest and belly.

PH Urbane is currently recuperating at the Horse Trust in Princes Risborough, Bucks and the Met said he has been "inundated" with treats from the public.

The attack took place in Victoria Park, Tower Hamlets on Wednesday (March 22) and the dog was  seized afterwards.

A video of the attack, which has been seen 2.5 million times on one TikTok post, shows the dog with its jaws locked onto the horse's legs.

Shouting can be heard, including someone saying: "Get hold of it someone. Someone get hold of the dog. F***s sake!"

The officer riding PH Urbane at the time of the incident received no physical injuries and the dog remains in kennels.

Jeanette Allen, Chief Executive of The Horse Trust said: “Police Horse Urbane has served Londoners faultlessly at many events, such as Trooping The Colour, Changing of The Guard, and at the funeral for Queen Elizabeth II.

"He has kept the public safe when on duty at numerous football matches and street demonstrations.

"He suffered appalling injuries, and The Horse Trust is the right place for him to come to continue his recovery, where he will deservedly receive our world-leading veterinary care and respite.

"Like all our horses here at The Horse Trust, Urbane is a brave, big-hearted, loveable animal. He has a wonderful character and is incredibly reliable.

"As we have specialist skills in caring for police horses, we are honoured to be entrusted with Police Horse Urbane’s ongoing recovery, which will be administered with expert care by our staff and volunteers and supported by kind donations from the public.”

Sgt Carly Harber from the Metropolitan Police Mounted Section said: “We were all shocked and devastated by the dog attack on Police Horse Urbane, who is a remarkably dependable horse with a playful side to his character.

"We are so grateful to The Horse Trust charity for offering respite to this magnificent member of our equine team, and we will be watching his recovery with great affection and hope.”

Despite the wounds PH Urbane suffered from the dog, thought to be an American Bully type dog, he has already been pictured befriending his vet’s Labrador, and it is hoped that Urbane will make a complete recovery, both psychologically and physically.
