A woman ended up paying £60 for a car wash costing £2.99 at Morrisons after she was caught by ANPR cameras.

Morrisons customers in High Wycombe have reported getting parking fines after visiting the store and then the car wash, which often has long queues.

SJ Marchrihanish took to social media after he was fined £100 for spending more than two hours in the car park and car wash after mistakenly thinking the petrol station on Parker Knoll Way was outside the parking zone managed by Euro Car Parks.

Another customer Hannah Walsh claimed she also fell victim to the ANPR cameras in similar circumstance to Mr Marchrihanish.

She was slapped with a £60 fine after eating at Morrisons café before queueing for more than an hour at the car wash located around 80 yards away but seemingly outside the car park.

She said: “Had I known the £2.99 car wash would end up costing me £60, I wouldn't have bothered waiting!

“I entered an appeal with Euro Car Parks but it's been rejected,” she said.

Morrisons told Mr Marchrihanish his fine would be cancelled after he sent them his breakfast and petrol receipts to prove he visited the store and the petrol station.

He advised Ms Walsh saying “I wasn't going to deal with those cowboys at Euro Car Parks if I could help it, so I went to the Morrisons website and filled in a customer service message box.

“It is disgusting that ECP should have rejected your appeal. I imagine many people have received and paid unjust fines that they would not have got if the camera was in the right place. Good luck.”

A spokesperson for Morrisons confirmed the store team will "take another look at the location of the signs to make sure they are really clear."

Morrisons slashed the parking time allowance from three hours down to two hours in the summer of 2020 in attempt to reserve parking for customers only rather than for visitors heading into the town centre but customers.
