Artists in Marlow are getting their creative juices flowing this week ahead of an annual Art Trail, an exhibition of local work around the town.

The Art Trail was conceived by resident artist Keith Clarke during the Coronavirus pandemic and it has since become a popular event in Marlow's social calendar.

Keith first stumbled upon the idea three years ago while looking for alternative ways to showcase his art while galleries were closed during lockdown.

He put up a marquee in his garden to display some of his pen-and-ink drawings and invited a few people on Facebook to drop by. Over 100 people showed up.

"It was meant to be a one-off but it went so well and when I talked to my artist friends in the area, they were interested in showing their work this way too.

"We decided to do a trail and use each other's gardens and now there's 30 people in the group, many of whom are professional artists, volunteering to host exhibitions."

The third annual Marlow Art Trail will take place at seven venues in the town on Sunday, May 28, and Monday, May 29, and will exhibit the work of 22 Marlow-based creatives.

"There's such a thriving artistic community in the town but most artists work alone, so what the trail does is bring everyone together to celebrate the work.

"It's also a chance to explore some beautiful gardens. Crispin Wride, a sculptor who is exhibiting his work this month, has a stunning sculpture garden leading down to his studio."

Alongside a range of paintings, sculptures and more, the Art Trek will also feature demonstrations from professional artists, a competition to win donated pieces of art and a soon-to-be-named celebrity guest.
