A man from Gerrards Cross said he is worried "someone will get killed" by the huge potholes on Bucks roads.

Gerrards Cross resident Simon shared a photo on NextDoor on Tuesday, May 2, of a "giant crater" pothole he spotted on Austenwood Lane in Gerrards Cross.

Holding his size 11 trainer up to the pothole for comparison, he said he was concerned that it was "just waiting to kill a motorcyclist or destroy your tyres".

Speaking to the BFP, he added: "I think the state of the local roads are a disgrace and the taxpayer is not getting value for money.

"Somebody is going to get killed by a pothole like this and there are thousands of them across the country."

Two people also shared their experiences of "losing a tyre" and "damaging the tyres and wheels" of their cars while driving over the pothole on Austenwood Lane.

NextDoor user Lucia Braithwaite replied to Simon's post saying she had reported the dangerous pothole on Fix My Street, a public authority website designed to alert local councils of street issues, and was told Buckinghamshire Council had begun repair works immediately.

However, Simon said he was concerned that despite the quick action to fix some potholes around Bucks, the council were only dealing with "the tip of the iceberg".

It comes after Buckinghamshire Highways announced this week that they had employed ten teams to work seven days a week making urgent repairs to "the most dangerous potholes" in the county.

At a council meeting on April 26, cabinet member for transport Steven Broadbent confirmed that a specialist Pothole Pro machine was being used to carry out speedy repairs to Bucks roads.

He also acknowledged that an upgrade to Fix My Street was underway in response to complaints that some reports had been marked as complete despite no action being taken.

Mr Broadbent added that of the 6,200 pothole cases recently reported by residents, a quarter had now been fixed although some of these were only temporary repairs.
