Residents in High Wycombe are frustrated that new roadworks, in place until the end of June, won't tackle pothole problems.

Roadworks on the Amersham Road stretch of the A404 in High Wycombe were put in place yesterday and are expected to cause delays in the area until June 27.

In the Hazlemere Residents Facebook group, one member posted a photo of the roadworks cordon on Wednesday, May 3, captioning the shot: "And so begins months of disruption on Inkerman Hill."

Some other members of the group expressed frustration that the works were not tackling the problem of dangerous potholes in the area, which one resident dubbed "the worst stretch of road for potholes in Hazlemere".

Sophie Cartwright took a lighthearted approach to the impending long term disruption, writing: "I might resort to riding my horse around Hazlemere instead... It will be safer around the potholes!"

The Bucks Council-approved roadworks will be in place along the A404 road until the end of June.

Multi-way traffic control measures have been put in place while Eclipse Power Networks Ltd carry out utility asset works in the area.

Steven Broadbent, Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport said: “The works taking place on Amersham Road are installing essential power cables for a new data centre.

"Temporary traffic signals will need to be in place along the affected route for the duration. To minimise the impact, we have instructed that these be manually controlled between 7am and 7pm. Works are permitted to take place between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday and 9am and 5pm on Saturdays and were extended so the works could be completed quicker.

“We understand that roadworks of any nature can cause delays and lead to frustrations but utility companies have a legal right to install their apparatus in our highways.

"We do our best to mitigate the impact on the local area by coordinating works and trying to minimise the impacts. We monitor works carried out by all third parties to ensure they comply with all conditions of the works permit.”
