The manager of a new Mediterranean restaurant in Bucks said he is 'extremely excited' ahead of its opening this summer.

The Journeyman, a premium pub and restaurant, is set to open on Packhorse Road in Gerrards Cross this July.

Owned by the award-winning company Oakman Inns, it will offer a Mediterranean-themed menu for all occasions, using fresh, seasonal and sustainably sourced ingredients.

The Art Deco building at number 10 on Packhorse Road is currently in the process of being transformed from a mechanics' workshop into a "spectacular" restaurant, complete with an open-plan kitchen, mid-century bar area and a heated outdoor terrace.

Jamie Firminger, general manager of The Journeyman - named after a Jethro Tull song of the same name which also references Gerrards Cross - said he was "extremely excited" about the upcoming opening.

"We've already had such a welcoming and warm response from the community. We're also now looking to recruit over 50 local individuals to join our amazing family."

The restaurant will offer training and structured career development across skill levels, including kitchen apprentice roles as part of its in-house Chef Academy.

Peter Borg-Neal, CEO and founder of the Oakman Restaurant Group, said that alongside career opportunities, the new restaurant would mark "a significant investment into the heart and economy of a historic market town".

Adding: "We know from experience that a restaurant and bar such as ours in the centre of the town provides an attractive destination for shoppers and visitors."

The Oakman Group owns and operates 40 eateries across the UK, with nine other venues in Bucks including The Polecat in Prestwood and Beech House in Beaconsfield.

Its first restaurant, The Akeman, opened by Mr Borg-Neal in Tring in 2007, was recognised shortly after opening for its "outstanding design and conservation work", and this eco-awareness has remained at the forefront of the company's ethos.

The Group planted a million trees in Madagascar and Tanzania last year via their tree-nation project, which planted one tree for every hot drink sold, in an effort to offset the carbon footprint of the business and its customers.

Ahead of The Journeyman opening this summer, recruitment days will be held at the Gerrards Cross Community Association on May 11, May 18 and May 27, from 10am to 5pm.
