Marlow Town Council elected a new Town Mayor after celebrating the end of an eventful year at its Annual Meeting this week.

Outgoing Mayor Richard Scott handed over his ceremonial chain to Councillor David Brown at an Annual Meeting on Tuesday, May 9, paying tribute in his final statement to the "community spirit" of the town.

Mr Scott also remembered the "outstanding success" of the Party Like A Queen celebration that took place in Higginson Park last May to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's platinum jubilee, as well as the historic moment when he read the proclaimation of King Charles III's ascension to the throne on The Causeway.

Adding: "I am honoured to have been your Town Mayor for the past four years. Marlow remains a very community-oriented town and I'd like to offer a big thank you to all residents for their support.

"My thanks also go to all Town Councillors and to my deputy, Councillor Jocelyn Townes."

Councillor Scott, whose four-year term makes him one of the longest serving Mayors in Marlow's history, said he had "no hesitation" in proposing that Councillor Brown, a former royal marine, take up the mantle.

The new Mayor paid tribute in his acceptance speech to the late Bob Johnson, who served as Mayor between 2015 and 2017 and who initially recommended Mr Brown for a position on the council.

He added: "I am delighted to have been elected as your mayor until May 2024. I have lived in the town for 30 years and it is with great pride that I will serve Marlow Town Council and all residents."

Councillor Colleen Stapley was elected as Deputy Mayor during the meeting, and chairmen for the council's various committees were also selected for the coming year.
