PARENTS have been given a final chance to have their say on whether a school should close for good.

The Mary Towerton Primary School in Studley Green, High Wycombe, is at risk of closing by August after a consultation launched earlier this year by Bucks council to help determine its future.

The latest government data indicates that the school provides education to fewer than 33 pupils aged four to 11, with eight pupils across Key Stage 1.

As well as this, the council said school admissions for September 2023 currently show no first preferences from parents and there's an "increasing level of financial support required for the school".

An Ofsted inspection in October 2019 recognised the school as ‘requires improvement’. Since then, the school has had high teacher turnover and many pupils have left the school.

The community has until this Friday (May 26) to let Buckinghamshire Council know how they feel about the proposed school closure.

Once the council receives responses from members of the public, the Leader of Buckinghamshire Council Martin Tett, in consultation with the Cabinet Member for Education and Children's Services, will take the decision on the final outcome.

The school's future will be decided on Friday, July 21. If the decision is taken to close the school, it is proposed that this would take effect on August 31, 2023.
