The Bucks Free Press photographer Ron Goodearl had a busy time travelling around the district on his motor-cycle to take photographs of the parties organised to celebrate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. Over 100 of them have found their way onto the SWOP website www.swop.org.uk. This week we show another couple of these.

Nearly 200 children attended a Coronation Party organised by Descol – Desborough Ave and Colville Rd Social Club. It began with a fancy dress parade, which assembled in the yard of the British Road Services Depot in Desborough Ave, before parading to the Wendover Arms for the tea to be held outdoors. However, a torrential downpour ruined the decorations and some of the food, so the tea had to be moved to St John’s schoolroom.
This Coronation Party was held for the children living in Oakridge Road and Upper Green Street. It took place in Green Street school, some 80 children attended and enjoyed a fancy dress competition and games in the playground, followed by tea.
