UPDATE: High Wycombe man jailed for joining terrorist group Daesh in Syria

A former High Wycombe grammar school pupil is due to be sentenced at the Old Bailey today for travelling to Syria to join IS.

Royal Grammar School pupil Shabazz Sulemanhas pleaded guilty to travelling to Syria to join the terrorist group Islamic State.

On April 14, 2023, Suleman admitted to preparing for acts of terrorism under section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.

Suleman of Freemantle Road, High Wycombe, was arrested on his return to the UK at Heathrow Airport in September 2021, and charged on October 5 with a string of terror offences.

He was 19 years old when he disappeared during a family holiday to Turkey and travelled to Syria.

Thames Valley Police said the now 27-year-old joined the terrorist group, also known as Deash, and received weapons training and performed guard duties.

He is due to be sentenced today at the Old Bailey in London.
