Marlow Film Studios developers have unveiled the final plans for proposed transport infrastructure surrounding the major development, as local campaigners continue to voice their dissent.

Dido Properties, the company behind the proposed Marlow Film Studios project, has submitted a Transport Assessment Addendum to Buckinghamshire Council.

The additional transport infrastructure details will be considered alongside other documents by the planning authority before a decision is made to either greenlight or refuse permission for the project later this year.

Proposals surrounding transport changes in the area include a proposed investment into the roundabout at the Westhorpe Interchange, creating an "intelligent and reactive smart signalling system" designed to reduce congestion.

Developers are also proposing to introduce increased public transport links between Marlow and surrounding areas.

CEO Robert Laycock said the plans would have "remarkably positive results" on local residents and also provide links to wider networks.

He said: “The improvements made to the roads and buses connecting key destinations, at least part-provided for enabling crews and trainees to come to the studio campus more sustainably, whether from nearby or internationally, will also make travelling to and from Marlow and the community easier and more sustainable.”

However, campaigners opposing the development have said the plans - especially those focused on providing bus, cyclist and pedestrian acess - ignore the impact the project could have on traffic infrastructure.

Environmental group Save Marlow's Greenbelt (SMGB) commissioned a Transport Evidence Review in April 2023 which predicted that the majority of "functional journeys" to the site would be made "by motor vehicle".

Trustee for the group Oyku Tevfik said SMGB is especially concerned about the site being used as a shooting location by big-name companies such as Netflix and Amazon, who may not put pressure on their employees to commute via public transport, potentially stretching nearby roadways to their limits.

"If the developers are looking to employ local people who can make use of these transport methods, why aren't they doing it somewhere like Liverpool or Manchester? Why are they saying they need to be near London? A cycle path might be nice for the community but it doesn't feel relevant for people who will actually be working at the studios."

SMGB chairman Richard Sherwin added: "The anti-social hours often worked by crewmembers on film studios can't possibly be consistently catered to by public transport. To assume the large majority won't be driving in and overwhelming our road networks is surely flawed."

Dido Property's latest Addendum states that the proposed investment in the Westhorpe Interchange roundabout would "reduce congestion and queuing at peak times".

Adding: "Without the film studios, upgrades are likely to be many years away, meaning there is no obvious solution for those affected by poor traffic flows, given the out-of-date design that was opened over 50 years ago."
