Award-winning comedian and actor Ricky Gervais is planning to invest in an extension for his £3million riverside mansion, located in Buckinghamshire.

Gervais, best known for his role as David Brent in The Office, intends to add a third bedroom to his Marlow riverside home in Quarry Wood Road by extending the first floor of the property.

However, the expansion plans must adhere to stricter planning laws due to the mansion's location within a designated Green Belt area.

Moreover, the property is situated within a flood zone.

Gervais and his partner, Jane Fallon, have submitted a planning permission application to Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead council for the "modest" side extension.

Interestingly, there have been no objections from their neighbours thus far.

As part of the proposed development, Gervais and Fallon have agreed to remove an existing side window in order to address any potential issues regarding overlooking neighbouring properties.

The existing layout of Gervais' Buckinghamshire home already includes a ground floor snug, drawing room, conservatory, garage, and office.

The first floor presently consists of two bedrooms with separate dressing areas for him and her.

The desire for an additional bedroom has prompted Gervais to seek permission for the extension.

In a letter to the council, Gervais' architect, Lewis Hillsdon, has outlined that the objective of the proposal is to extend over the existing garage to create extra bedroom space.

The extension will be designed to be subordinate to the existing structure, with proposed walls stepped back and lower eaves and ridge lines.

The architect also emphasized that the increase in floor area and volume resulting from the extension would be modest, less than 15% in both cases.

This, Hillsdon believes, would not constitute a disproportionate addition to the Green Belt.

Planning regulations in such areas permit extensions and alterations as long as they do not result in a significant increase in the overall size of the original building.

Furthermore, limited infilling and extensions to existing buildings are potentially acceptable.

Gervais' representative has assured that the proposed extension will be in harmony with the current structure in terms of scale, design, form, and materials.

Moreover, the removal of the window on the eastern facade eliminates any potential for overlooking the neighboring property.

Gervais, who is currently on his Armageddon comedy tour, possesses a property portfolio totalling over £16million.

This includes two homes in the UK and two apartments in New York's Upper East Side.

The comedian has had previous controversies regarding property renovations, such as when he dug out the basement of his former £7.7million Hampstead residence to create an underground gym and indoor pool.

He later acquired a £10.8 million, eight-bedroom home nearby, featuring amenities like a pool, outdoor badminton court, and summer house.

Officials at Windsor and Maidenhead Council are expected to make a decision on Gervais' bedroom extension in August.

This is the first planning application submitted for the property since its purchase by Gervais in 2014.

The previous owner lodged the last application in 1992 for an entrance porch.

Notably, other famous figures who reside nearby include comedian Russell Brand, who recently purchased a six-bedroom riverside residence in Henley-on-Thames for £3.3million, just two months before Gervais acquired his Buckinghamshire estate.
