An Indian restaurant has spoken out after they were slammed with a zero food hygiene rating.

Curry Gardens, situated on Eastfield Road, Burnham, was inspected by the Food Standards Agency on May 26.

Following the inspection the restaurant has been downgraded from a five-star food hygiene rating, to a zero.

The rating has meant that Curry Gardens has been dropped from Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eat, which could see the business lose out on £6,000 to £8,000 a month.

Curry Gardens have taken to their Facebook page to issue a statement to their customers.

In the letter they say they are "absolutely gutted" at the recent health inspection.

"We would like to take this opportunity to reassure to all our beloved customers that our food is always made on the day everyday and not once in the last six years of trading have we ever received complaints of poor food quality."

Curry Gardens plans to appeal the decision, claiming the rating has largely been given due to inadequate paperwork on the day of the inspection.

The restaurant is currently working to provide the Food Standards Agency with the required paperwork in a bid to get back the five-star rating.

Owner of Curry Gardens Malik Miah said he is thankful to the restaurant's loyal customers at this time.

However, Malik worries that without an improved rating, the restaurant will be unable to continue operating.

"Our livelihoods have gone out the window," he said.

"How do we survive - it's completely destroyed us."

In the meantime, the restaurant added: "We like to apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused and more than happy to answer any questions you may have."
