The owner of a restaurant in Buckinghamshire said they are 'so proud' after the 'incredible achievement' of being named top in the country by the Good Food Guide.

The Greyhound restaurant in Beaconsfield and The Pilgrim pub in Buckingham have both been named in The Good Food Guide’s list of the 100 best local restaurants in Britain.

Daniel Crump, owner of The Greyhound, described the recognition as an ‘incredible achievement’.

He said: “What makes being featured in this guide such an amazing feeling is that we have to be nominated by our guests.

“I’m so proud of the team and how we’ve managed to make Beaconsfield proud. Looking out for our guests is at the centre of what we set out to do every day. This kind of repayment is a really incredible achievement.”

The Good Food Guide rated The Greyhound as ‘very good’, with the uniqueness of the venue described as meeting ‘exceptional’ standards.

The website’s review said: “The whole place runs like clockwork, with proficient and knowledgeable front of house staff who are fully clued up about the menus and exude the kind of intimate atmosphere that people love.”

A member of The Pilgrim's team also shared their excitement at receiving a nod from the reputable restaurant guide, writing on their Facebook page: “We are truly honoured and grateful to be included on the list of Britain’s 100 best local restaurants.”

The Pilgrim received an overall ‘good’ rating on The Good Food Guide website, with the reviewer praising the restaurant’s “cosy haven” interiors and wide-ranging menu.

To be listed in The Good Food Guide’s top 100 restaurants in Britain, places must initially be nominated by members of the public.

After a six-week nomination period, inspectors, made up of ex-chefs and food writers, visit the most popular restaurants and deliberate on which should make the final cut.

The Good Food Guide, often considered the definitive indicator of a restaurant’s quality, was founded in 1951 by Raymond Postgate and is the longest standing guide to eating out in Britain.

Restaurants are rated from ‘good’ and ‘very good’ to ‘exceptional’ and ‘world class’, with venues judged on their uniqueness, deliciousness, warmth and strength of recommendation.
