Plans for a potential skatepark to be built in Bourne End have been ‘supported’ by the parish council.

There have been several loose discussions about having a space for children, primarily teenagers, beyond the shelter in Wakeman Road after ‘years of frustration’ due to the lack of activities there are in the area.

But after the concerns of parents and the youngsters were put forward to Wooburn & Bourne End Parish Council, they agreed that an area for children is needed.

They are now asking for feedback for local residents on what they think of the ideas before taking the next steps, which would involve planning permission.

The Wooburn & Bourne End Parish Council said: “We have a strong track record of investing in playground equipment, providing facilities for local sports clubs, as well as attractive walks within its maintained parks.

“The PC [parish council] also provides grants to fund third-party activities on an individual case basis.

“There has long been an awareness of the lack of outdoor facilities for young people (older children and teenagers) within our community beyond the shelter in Wakeman Road.

“The PC also became aware of a very well-subscribed petition organized by a local student who was keen to see more activity areas for young people, notably a skate park in the local area.”

The deadline for comments and feedback, which are all anonymous, are due in by October 1 this year.

They continued: “Along with Chepping Wycombe PC, we have undertaken some preliminary research into such activities through a Skate Park Feasibility Group over the last year or so.

“They have contacted other Town and Parish Council’s with similar facilities, reviewed potential sites and had some preliminary discussions with a skate park consultant.

“Prior to moving to more detailed studies, the PC would like to get the views of the community, across all ages and needs, on the provision of activities for young people and a potential skate park.

“Please complete this brief survey and encourage your family and friends in the area to do likewise to ensure we get an excellent response and cross-section of the community.

“We would like to hear from children too, so please ask them to complete this and help as necessary.”
