A professional rugby player who grew up in High Wycombe hopes his motivational organisation can inspire the next generation of youngsters in the town.

Christian Wade, who played for the London Wasps along with the Buffalo Bills in the NFL, currently plays his trade for Racing 92 in France, but he’ll be returning to Buckinghamshire in August.

This is part of his Next Gen You rugby camp, where he will lead a three-day event teaching children how to play the sport along with various other activities.

And despite being born in Slough, the 32-year-old moved to Wycombe during his infancy and has called the town ‘a place I love with great memories’.

He told the Free Press: “I love this place - a hundred per cent.

“This is a place I love as it has given me so many great memories.

“And even though I’m from Slough, I grew up in High Wycombe so Wycombe is my home.

“When I was a kid there was so much to do.

“There were youth clubs in Hazlemere along with within the town and you had the carnival on the Rye.

“It was great.

“Now, there’s nothing going on for the youngsters.

“Everyone wants to get paid to do work so everything has changed.

“But there is now a gap to try and help the young people.

“Like last year, my camp is for three days where the children will be able to learn through myself and other coaches who I really trust.

“Also, with the Next Gen You project which I’m running, we’re hoping to help as many young people by motivating them.”

On the camp, he added: “With this camp, I want to bring my whole experience, the principles and the values that I have learnt over the years from the NFL and within rugby, along with coaches who have helped me with my journey along with players who I have looked up to and have played with.”

The camp will take place between August 1 and August 3 at the Royal Grammar School in High Wycombe.
