AFTER months of planning, 150 former pupils of West Wycombe School finally met up for a reunion 80 years after leaving the school.

The school in Church Lane, West Wycombe, welcomed back its students, staff and parents - some haven’t been inside the school since the 1940s.

Many enjoyed finding themselves in items from the school archive, flicking through photos and old schoolbooks.

Schoolmates reunited after many years.

The pupils from the 1940-50s were amazed at how much bigger the school was.

Others were excited to see what was where the old swimming pool was and it was discovered that the pool was built by one of the current grandparents from the school.

When he was there trying to fix a leak, he realised it was going to empty so he shouted for help and one of the Year 3 teachers came out with her whole class. They held the walls up while he bolted it back together.

Headteacher Ed Tang said: "We learnt a lot about our school, how children used to play on the hill at lunchtime or catch the bus home for lunch,  that the whole school sat in one in the Victorian Building to listen to the Queen Coronation in 1952, that Mr Holbrook the old Headteacher used a ladder to get to school from his garden next door and before the school was extended there was a large apple orchard.

"We even heard first-hand stories of the air raids shelters which were under the current school car park.

"What was really nice about the whole event was seeing everyone so at home and happy. We always pride ourselves on being a small school with a big heart and it was lovely to see it has been part of the school ethos for so long."

West Wycombe School is already planning its next reunion which will take place in July 2025 to mark the school's 150-year birthday.

Mr Tang added: "We hope to welcome more familiar faces.

"In the meantime, why not join our Facebook page and reunite with old friends www.facebook.com/groups/westwycombeschoololdpupils/."
