A fly-tipper has dumped dozens of bags in Buckinghamshire countryside.

The police came across a pile of black bin bags and some cardboard dumped on the side of a road today (August 14) in north Bucks.

Thames Valley Police officers discovered the unsightly dump on Newton Road outside Stoke Hammond near Milton Keynes.

The force said: “Officers from the Winslow Safer Neighbourhood Team whilst out on patrol today have come across a large fly tipping on Newton Road just outside Stoke Hammond. Buckinghamshire Council have been made aware."

A picture of the fly-tipped bags, which appeared full, was posted on Twitter by TVP Aylesbury Vale.

The Council’s fly-tipping enforcement team commented the picture, saying the bags had “the appearance of dumping of waste following illegal growing of cannabis.”

Enforcement officers from the Council will attend the site within 24 hours to investigate and arrange removal of the waste "if appropriate to do so," Bucks Council's cabinet member for climate change and environment Gareth Williams confirmed.

He continued: "Until this site visit has taken place, we are not able to determine the composition or origin of the waste.

"However, it’s visual appearance from the information forwarded by TVP, is consistent with other deposits where waste was dumped following the illegal growing of cannabis.

"That waste often has a very strong characteristic odour, meaning it is frequently fly-tipped as seeking to dispose of it lawfully would most likely compromise the waste carrier.

"Buckinghamshire Council regularly investigates these deposits and prosecutes offenders for the fly-tipping offence where the evidence allows. Fly-tipping of any kind is not tolerated in Buckinghamshire.”
