Crowds gathered to celebrate Pakistan's Independence Day at a Buckinghamshire theatre.

The celebration at The Elgiva Theatre in Chesham on August 13 marked the 76th Independence Day of Pakistan, a day celebrated globally on August 14 to commemorate the day it became a sovereign country following the end of the British Raj. 

Guests gathered to watch inspiring presentations tracing the journey and significance Pakistan’s independence through real-life stories alongside music, food and recognition of more than 30 Asian businesses.

Organiser of the event Chesham Town councillor Parveiz Aslam MBE thanked artists Magician Dee Riley and singer Temoor Alam, The Elgiva's staff, guest of honour Sarah Green MP, and volunteers who worked hard to make the celebration a “triumph.”

He said: “The event was indeed a resounding success, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of everyone who attended. It showcased the power of unity, cultural pride, and celebration of achievements within the community.”
