Film studio developers have defended their transport plans after environmental campaigners criticised the 'dominating' impact the proposed site would have on the surrounding area.

Campaigners from the local environmental group Save Marlow's Greenbelt staged a demonstration using balloons to show the height of the proposed Marlow Film Studios site last week.

A spokesperson for the group criticised the "dominating" nature of the proposal, which would be constructed on land near the A404 in Marlow if approved by Buckinghamshire Council.

They said it would "change Marlow's character from an attractive riverside town into an industrial conurbation", adding that residents would have "plenty of time to admire" the development due to "traffic jams caused by 4,000 staff commuting to and from the studio every day".

However, a representative for Marlow Film Studios has contested these claims, indicating that only half of the 4,000 new employees recruited by the studio would work onsite.

They added: "Double Stirling Prize-winning architects Wilkinson Eyre and 2012 Olympic Park master planner Jason Prior (Prior and Partners) have designed Marlow Film Studios with great consideration to any visual impact.

"The typical filming day starts and ends outside normal peak hours, and so both the provision and funding of two new bus routes connecting easily to major rail locations and significant highways investment will be a significant benefit beyond creating highly desirable jobs in the creative economy."
