Wycombe Wanderers hope to make it two wins from two in the league for the first time under Matt Bloomfield as they travel to Northampton Town today.

The Chairboys go into the contest off the back of a disappointing League Cup exit to Sutton United, whilst the Cobblers have kept two clean sheets in their last two games in which they have picked up six points from six.

So what can we expect at Sixfields this weekend?

Lowdown on Wanderers

This week has been a bit unpredictable in more ways than one.

Elimination from the EFL Cup against lower league opposition on Tuesday was described as ‘disappointing’ by manager Matt Bloomfield, as the Wanderers possession hoodoo continues.

Wycombe have not won a competitive fixture when having more of the ball since March 2022, and the 1-0 loss versus the League Two side saw the Chairboys do everything but score.

This was off the back of a very impressive 2-1 away league win at Bristol Rovers just days before.

One positive however is that the club will still be able to select Brandon Hanlan after his pending move to Wrexham fell through.

It had been reported that the 26-year-old was due to leave Adams Park which is why he was omitted from the squad that faced Sutton on Tuesday night.

However, no transfer materialised.

Additionally, the club also did not announce the signing of former fan favourite, Uche Ikpeazu.

The ex-Middlesborough man had a medical with the club at the end of August and it had been anticipated he would be unveiled on the window’s deadline day of September 1.

However, this was not the case but he is still expected to sign despite the window closing due to being a free agent.

Lowdown on Northampton

It’s fair to say that Northampton have been somewhat of a yo-yo team in recent seasons.

Since the 2015/16 campaign, they have been promoted three times and relegated three times across both Leagues One and Two.

And this year has seen them return to the third tier after a two-year spell away.

It’s been a respectable start with two wins, two defeats and one draw from the last five games, but like Wanderers, they are unbeaten in their last three after losing the opening two.

Additionally, they have kept two clean sheets in their last two matches which include a 1-0 victory against local rivals, Peterborough United.
