The owner of a popular cafe known for its quirky vintage decor has revealed its re-opening date.

Air Raids Shelter Cafe and Tea Room owner Chris Miller announced in July that the business was moving out of the embattled Chilterns Shopping Centre into the Sosh Club just down the road on Frogmoor.

After the Sosh Club closed with an epic farewell Pride party in August, Chris and the team have been revamping the space into a tea room with a couple of B&B rooms upstairs.

Chris explained what the renovation has been like: “Some days I hope it’s going to be done and some nights I can’t sleep!

“We were lucky we made the decision when we did because of Wilko.

“What happened with Wilko, if I had not shut Sosh Club I could be having to look for somewhere else to open. It shows how important the Wilko is for the shopping centre. Half of Wilko is closed and they have no stock. We would not have had any footfall without Wilko.

“We are going, Wilko is going, Primark is going next year. I’m not sure how long it’s going to keep open.”

Upstairs of the former Sosh Club bar is being turned into a royal-style "overflow tea room". Two bedrooms, named after former monarchs King George V and Queen Elizabeth, have been kept as a B&B.

Downstairs, the construction of the railway carriage is "progressing," Chris revealed.

The opening date at the new location is Friday September 29, with doors open to the public at 2pm.

"I'm really excited for the new place. It's an old and listed building, so it's going to have a few steps but we're doing our best putting in ramps and widening the doors," Chris added.
