A GoFundMe page that was set up to help a Wycombe-based village hall has only accumulated £140 in donations.

The Booker Memorial Hall, which has been in the town since 1902, had to spend £55,000 on major roof repairs that saw the venue close for the entity of August.

They reopened their doors this month despite the ongoing works, with the location hosting small events to try and keep its cash flow continuing.

However, they have yet to make any substantial progression with the £140 all coming from non-paying members of staff.

A volunteer told the Free Press: “We knew the roof needed repairing but we weren’t aware of how bad it was until we were told.

“That, along with other bits, has cost us £55,000 with the money coming from our pocket.

“We didn’t want to close but we had no choice.

“That’s come from previous bingo nights and hired events that have been held here, so we’re now £55,000 down.

“We created the GoFundMe page to see if we can get some of that money back as many people who used the hall have said they love it.

"The community is big and I thought we would have received more support, but we’ve only had £140.

“Any help to save us would be appreciated as we don’t get paid to run the hall.”

The GoFundMe page was set up at the end of July but has not had a donation since the middle of August.

The venue is also not linked to any charity and therefore relies on self-funding.
