Comedian Russell Brand who is facing allegations of rape and sexual assault has taken to the stage in Wembley tonight - though blamed the traffic on the M40 for his late arrival.

The former actor was the subject of an hour-and-a-half documentary on Channel 4 on Saturday night which carried allegations from four women who claim they have been abused by the 48-year-old YouTuber.

Mr Brand, who lives near Marlow in Buckinghamshire, strongly denies the allegations.

As previously reported, crashes on the M40 motorway near Loudwater held up drivers for hours as emergency services worked to clear the blocked lanes.

And now it has emerged that among those caught up in the standstill traffic was Mr Brand - on his way to perform in London. The gig was rearranged before Channel 4's special report on Mr Beand was announced.

The Daily Mail reports Mr Brand received a warm welcome from fans  - with one female audience member holding a sign saying, "We stand by you Russell. Stay strong. Stay Free. We love you".

Brand arrived at Wembley's Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre almost an hour late to perform his show Bipolarisation after getting 'stuck in traffic on the M40'.

The father-of-two, who is ambassador at a High Wycombe food bank, reportedly told the audience he loved them, adding: "There's some things I cannot talk about and hopefully you appreciate that I'm gonna give you everything I've got."

Brand has strong connections to the Bucks area, living close to Marlow and getting involved with local campaigns such as food poverty.
