A new operations manager has been appointed to look after one of Marlow's long-standing pubs on the high street.

Marc Rawling has been selected as operations manager of the renowned Honeycomb Houses, a division of Brakspear.

He will supervise four of the ten managed establishments: The Chequers in Marlow, The Nag’s Head in Abingdon, The Lion in Bicester, and The Bull on Bell Street in Henley-on-Thames.

The latter was Brakspear’s first managed watering hole, conveniently located beside their headquarters.

Moving from Fuller Smith & Turner, Rawling spent 19 impactful years with the company, gradually climbing the ranks from general manager of The Vintry in London to operations manager.

Rawling’s experience spans across populous urban pubs to countryside inns and hotels, equipping him well for his new role in Honeycomb Houses.

A significant portion of Rawling’s role will involve overseeing the food offerings within the pubs.

Both The Lion and The Chequers also provide accommodation, adding another layer of intricacy to his responsibilities.

Rawling’s hospitality journey did not commence at Fuller’s, as he previously held positions at Ask and Pitcher & Piano.

Speaking of his appointment, Rawling expressed his admiration for the unique character of each pub he'll be managing.

He said: "I’ve been impressed by the way Brakspear has developed the Honeycomb Houses group: each pub has its individual character, but there’s a clear, overarching ethos of ‘our house, your home’ across the estate.

"I see the biggest opportunity as being to embed that ethos and values with all our team members, as the best way to give the best experience to every guest, on every visit to our pubs.

“We have some of the best pubs in the region, run by some of the most talented GMs and teams. We’re about to go into a busy time, launching new menus later this month and gearing up for Christmas, so my immediate priority will be to support our pubs to deliver an exceptional festive season.”

Brakspear's chief executive, Tom Davies, has applauded Rawling's move to Honeycomb Houses.

'His experience and skills will be an enormous asset for our pub'

Adding: "We’re delighted Marc is joining Honeycomb Houses; his experience and skills will be an enormous asset for our pub and head office teams.

“Fuller’s is a company we’ve always admired; in fact, I started my own pub career with them. So, we know that Marc joins us with an approach and values that are similar to ours, particularly around developing a people culture. We’re confident that Marc will quickly make a positive difference to Honeycomb Houses.”
