SEVERAL roads will be closed as government leaders prepare to gather in Buckinghamshire for the first Artificial Intelligence (AI) Safety Summit this weekend.

Thames Valley Police has a strict security operation in place for the summit in Bletchley Park.

Government officials are preparing to welcome delegates to discuss the future of artificial intelligence, synonymous with the growth of computing.  

This security operation will include road closures and restrictions on paths, which will impact on both vehicles and pedestrians.

Road closures this weekend: 

Friday, October 27 

Temporary parking restrictions come into place on the following roads, meaning vehicles cannot park or stop

  • Sherwood Drive
  • Tiltman Lane
  • Welchman Court
  • Jemima Way
  • Wilton Avenue
  • Rickley Lane
  • Church Green Road and Buckingham Road between the Sherwood Drive roundabout and Church Green Road 

Saturday,October 28

Closure of the Redway between Wilton Avenue and Sherwood Drive  

From 12pm on Sunday, October 29

  • Closure to through traffic on Sherwood Drive, between Turing Gate and Bletchley train station, preventing access to Jemima Way.
  • Access will still be granted to properties in Welchman Court and Tiltman Lane.  
  • Wilton Avenue will also close, except for access to properties.  

Wednesday, November 1

Full road closures:

  • Sherwood Drive (between Turing Gate and Bletchley train station preventing access to Bletchley Park)
  • Jemima Way
  • Wilton Avenue
  • Welchman Court
  • Tiltman Lane

Pedestrians will still be able to use the footpath on the side of the road nearest the train station. 

All restrictions will lift on Friday, November 3.

Gold Commander for the policing operation, Assistant Chief Constable Robert France, said: “I fully appreciate that the upcoming event will lead to some disruption in our local community.  

“We are committed to ensuring the safety and security, not only of the delegates attending the summit, but also the community of Bletchley, and these measures are in place to ensure that the event passes safely.

“I would encourage anybody in the area affected to please speak to officers on the ground, and they will be only too happy to address any concerns or questions that you may have.  

“I would also like to pass on my thanks in advance to the community of Bletchley for their patience and understanding.  

“This is a significant international event being hosted at an iconic venue, and we will do all that we can to minimise disruption.”
