As we all know, Buckinghamshire has been used to shoot some huge Hollywood blockbusters that have dominated the big screens.

They have either been shot at Pinewood Studios in Iver, or on location across the county.

But let us look at three areas of the area that have been used for popular TV shows.

Stowe House – Bridgeton

Originally on our screens between 2020 and 2022, this American fictional romance was a huge hit on Netflix, gaining thousands of fans and millions of views.

And some of its setting was shot in the county that we call home.

In the show’s first season, which starred Adjoa Andoh, Lorraine Ashbourne, Jonathan Bailey, Julie Andrews, Nicola Coughlan and Rege-Jean Page, a portion of it was filmed at Stowe School in the north of the county.

The first episode of the periodical piece was the main characters and extras mingling as the audience gets to know who is who.

While the show was primarily filmed in London and Bath, many various estates and parks were used to shoot specific scenes.

This includes Stowe Park.

Waddesdon Manor – Downton Abbey

Sticking with periodical dramas, Downton Abbey was shot in 170 locations across the UK during its original run between 2010 and 2015.

And out of the 52 episodes which were recorded, one was filmed in Buckinghamshire.

In the sixth episode of season two, which was aired in October 2011, several exterior and interior shots of Waddesdon Manor can be seen.

The viewing, which focused on how the Armistice concluded the First World War and starred big names such as Hugh Bonneville, Dan Stevens, Elizabeth McGovern, Jessica Brown Findlay and Allen Leech, was viewed by more than 11 million people.

St Mary’s Church – Vicar of Dibley

Turville may have a population of around 350 people, it’s beautiful settings and greenery caught the eyes of millions as it was the location for one of the UK’s greatest-ever sitcoms.

The Vicar of Dibley was shot in the small village near High Wycombe, with Turville’s St Mary’s Church being the set where Dawn French’s character, Geraldine Granger, got herself in all sorts of trouble.

Additionally, the house directly next door to the church went up for sale in 2018 for around £900,000.
