PLANS for a new village skate and activity park have been given the go-ahead.

Chalfont St Peter residents have campaigned for the Chalfonts Activity Park Project for more than two years to get better provision for wheeled sports for people of all ages in the village.

Now the new skatepark has been given conditional permission by Buckinghamshire Council.

The new activity park will be located at the site of an “out-dated” existing skatepark behind the community centre off Gravel Hill.

The old skatepark equipment and shelters will be removed to make way for the brand-new skatepark designed by Maverick Skateparks, a developer specialising in the design and installation of concrete skateparks.

The campaigners launched a fundraiser in September to urgently raise funds to make the long-awaited skatepark a reality.

Mum of a local skateboarder and organiser of the fundraiser Rebecca Fitch said the project is “not just a skatepark.”

“The objective is to collaborate with our community and local authority to build a modern wheeled sports activity park for people of all ages to enjoy on their bikes, skates, skateboards and scooters,” she said.

“If there is enough interest and funding, we’d like to see it include other features to become something that our whole community can enjoy, where families can gather and participate in a wider range of activities.”

So far, supporters have donated just over £1,090 out of the £3,000 target.

Chalfont St Peter parish council has pledged £50,000 towards the project, she said.

Skateboarding is set to feature at the Paris 2024 summer Olympics and in 2028 in Los Angeles, the birthplace of skateboarding.
