Town Christmas festival with Santa’s Grotto and market will take over the high street soon.

Amersham-on-the-Hill Christmas Festival has revealed its programme on Saturday, December 2 from 10am until 5pm on Sycamore Road.

This year, Amersham in Bloom volunteers will kick off the festive season in the town by switching on the Christmas lights alongside an opening by the mayor of Amersham Elizabeth Shepherd.

Chair of the Amersham Action Group Jane Barnes said: “This year we have asked the Amersham in Bloom team to turn on the Christmas Lights, as you know they won so many awards last year, not to mention another gold this year and we wanted to highlight what a great team of people they are, bringing a lot of colour and joy to the people of Amersham.”

Visitors of all ages can enjoy the outdoor market on Sycamore Road with more than 40 stalls selling crafts, tasty food and drinks.

Street entertainment will keep younger festivalgoers engaged from 12pm. Live music will take on the stage from midday, including a rock group from Dr Challoner’s Grammar School due to popular demand and other tunes.

Chiltern Voice radio station is set to broadcast live throughout the event. Local businesses have donated prizes for the big raffle.

Santa will welcome children from 12pm until 4pm for free in his Grotto located outside St Michael’s Church.

St Michael’s Church will host an indoor market with a mix of charities and community group stalls raising awareness and fundraising.

All money raised from the event goes to Chiltern Food Bank and Chiltern Toy Bank, Jane said.

This year the Amersham Action Group is organising the annual event with Amersham Town Council and sponsoring by The Kokum, Tax Assist Accountants, DC Kaye and Co Solicitors and J Brown Funeral Services and The Entertainer.

Organisers labelled last year's Amersham Christmas Festival a smash hit and the "best ever" after more than 2,000 people enjoying the entertainment, market and shopping at local businesses.
