A wine shop is planning to open a new branch in a Buckinghamshire town, with a spokesperson describing the area as "a perfect fit" for the business.

CEO of Majestic Wine John Colley told The Telegraph last week that he was eyeing plans to open new stores in market towns such as Marlow and Henley-on-Thames.

A spokesperson for the retailer, which is the biggest of its kind in the UK, has now confirmed the expansion plans, telling the Free Press that Majestic Wine is currently in talks to open a branch on Spittal Street in Marlow.

The specialist wine shop has opened five stores in 2022/23, as well as a further five since April of this year, and Mr Colley reportedly has plans to open 50 more over the next half-decade as part of a significant investment project.

He said: "Majestic is committed to growing our store footprint and has pinpointed more than 70 locations across the UK where we see an opportunity to expand.

"We have identified Marlow as one of those towns and are delighted to have found a site that we believe would be a perfect fit for Majestic.

"We are excited about the prospect of bringing our market-leading proposition to Marlow and helping new customers enjoy the Majestic experience with our qualified experts and award-winning wine ranges."

Majestic Wine, which sells a range of beers and spirits alongside its specialist wine selection, operates a unique 'Shop Local' scheme that enables residents to browse in-stock produce from their local store online in real-time.

Each store also has a delivery van ferrying orders around the area, a service that would likely be a feature of the proposed Marlow branch.
