A popular hospital radio station in Buckinghamshire has recently celebrated its 45th anniversary.

Stoke Mandeville Hospital Radio, which is based in Aylesbury, commemorated the milestone on December 4 with a selection of special shows that included interviews, requests and dedications for patients and staff, a chart show from December 1978 and a history of the station along with music from the past 45 years.

Martin Kinch, who joined the station a month later in January 1979 and remains an active figure with the charity as a presenter, spoke to some of the founding members of the charity which included Bernard Shirley.

Mr Shirley, who was also a member of the Aylesbury Round Table at the time, told SMHR (Stoke Mandeville Hospital Radio] about the regular meetings that led to the creation of the radio station.

The station has also worked with some notable names in the broadcasting industry such as Ken Bruce, Alan Dedicoat and Peter Dickson.
