Buckinghamshire Council has responded to rumours over the loss of free parking at a council office.

A resident was left concerned over the future of free car parking at the soon-closing King George V House council offices in Amersham-on-the-Hill.

King George V House will face a gradual closure from January as part of a major reshuffle of face-to-face council services in Amersham and Chesham following a recent cabinet decision.

Patrick Carroll, Amersham, wanted clarity from the council over the free car parking provision at King George V office, where parking is free for 30 minutes.

The free parking is popular among parents dropping off and picking up their children from the nursery inside the nearby Chilterns Lifestyle Centre, but Patrick claimed the council was planning to get rid of the free parking when King George V House closes.

The council denied an immediate closure of the car park, saying the same arrangements will stay in place “for the time being.”

Buckinghamshire Council’s cabinet member for accessible housing and resources and councillor John Chilver said: “The council’s Cabinet has agreed to close the King George V office in Amersham to deliver budgeted savings and capital receipt to support core council activities.

“The car park will remain open with the same arrangements in place for the time being.

“Alternative parking is also available close by at Chiltern Avenue or Amersham multi storey where usual charges will apply.”
