It may not have been a white Christmas this year, but there's hope yet for a snowy winter in Buckinghamshire.

The UK is currently still reeling from the aftermath of Storm Henk, the latest spell of bad weather to hit the country after Storm Gerit wreaked havoc on travel over the Christmas period.

There may be much more disruption to come, however, with speculation rife that an impending 'Beast from the East' could descend upon the country over the January and February period, historically the coldest months of the year.

Long-range weather forecasts on AccuWeather show that snow could hit Buckinghamshire in just a few weeks on January 18, continuing into the next day before the arrival of a second spell on January 25.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said that colder conditions and frosty nights were likely to set in across the country between January 7 and January 16, with chances of sleet and snow increasing during this period as well as ice and freezing fog.

The period between January 17 and January 31 is expected to usher in "colder than average" temperatures, with a dry but wintry climate and a greater than normal risk of cold, ice and snow.

Temperatures will drop off in the region towards the end of this week, with lows of six degrees Celsius on Saturday, January 6, and an average of five degrees from Sunday onwards.
