YOUNG scientists savoured the sweet taste of success after they won first place in the Crest Awards Regional Final science competition.
The pupils from Stony Dean School in Orchard End Ave, Amersham, took part in the competition, called Something To Chew On, and set to work on testing tenderisers in marinades.
They devised experiments to discover how many tenderising enzymes there were in shop bought marinades.
Their efforts impressed the judges and their entry was raised from bronze award standard to silver.
Julie Smith, a teacher at the school, said: "We are really proud to see our young scientists doing so well. The whole school got involved at various stages so everyone can share in the success."
They will take part in the National Finals at Loughborough University on June 28 and 29.
The regional final of the competition was held in Harpenden where Stony Dean's entry was presented by 15-year-olds Mark Ellis, James Tillman and Craig Donnet and Linda Bailes, 16.
