The vicar of a High Wycombe church has said he and his congregation are ‘here to help’ after a section of the town was left without water.

Those living in the HP13 area were unable to access water in the late hours of February 1, with the issues continuing until the mid-afternoon of February 2.

Thames Water confirmed that the problem was caused by a burst pipe along Amersham Hill.

As engineers attempted to fix the problem, St Augustine’s Church along the same street offered free bottles of water to those who had been impacted.

Father Jonathan Hill told the Free Press: “The people who live by got water for a short-term need as we’re here to help even if it’s in the smallest way.

“It’s essential to help those in need as it’s the simple things that go a long way.”

In all, three crates of bottled water were left on the church grounds with members of the public picking up the supplies as the day went on.

In a statement issued by Thames Water, they said: “We are sorry to customers who have experienced water supply interruptions, following a burst pipe on Amersham Hill in High Wycombe.

“While water is expected to return to properties shortly, we have provisionally opened a bottled water station for customers at St Augustine’s Church on Amersham Hill, HP13 6NZ. We’ve also identified Priority Service Customers in the area who may require us to deliver water.

“Our teams will work to reinstate the road in the coming days, during which time temporary traffic lights will remain in place. Our engineers are working as quickly and safely as possible to re-open the road.”

The leak has now been fixed.
