Flood alerts have been issued for parts of Buckinghamshire following rainfall overnight.

The Environment Agency has warned residents in Buckinghamshire of flood risks in the county today (February 8) after rising river levels due to rainfall overnight.

Flood alerts have been issued for the River Thame and Chalgrove Brook in Buckinghamshire, with flooding of low-lying land and roads expected in the Aylesbury area.

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said they expected river levels to remain high throughout the day and warned that they could rise further in response to forecast rainfall.

Horsenden Stream in Princes Risborough and the Middle and Upper River Great Ouse through Milton Keynes and Buckingham have also been placed under alert, with flooding possible until tomorrow morning (February 9).

Residents have been advised to avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses and against putting themselves in “unnecessary danger” while the situation across the county continues to be monitored.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for Buckinghamshire yesterday, warning of potential disruption to travel amid heavy rainfall.

The rain warning came into effect at 2am this morning and will remain in place until 6am on Friday, February 9.
