Buckinghamshire Council has agreed to adopt a supplementary planning document which sets out how future development at Shenley Park should take place.

Located in the parish of Whaddon, on Milton Keynes' edge, Shenley Park is a designated site in the Vale of Aylesbury Local Plan (VALP) 2011-2031, adopted by Buckinghamshire Council in 2021.

As per the VALP policy, a Supplementary Planning Document for Shenley Park is required to provide guidance on the site's development.

The SPD outlines the location for at least 1,150 homes, a new local centre, and a primary school.

It also plans a new link road between the A421 Buckingham Road and H6 Childs Way, a dedicated public transportation route connecting the A421 to H7 Hayton Way and a landscaped buffer separating the village of Whaddon from the new development.

In response to a public consultation last year, amendments were instituted into the SPD to accommodate public views and fresh information.

These alterations included implementing a 40mph strategic outer link road, reducing to 30-mph when joining into H6 Childs Way, and closing Shenley Road to motor vehicles, enabling it to act as a pedestrian and cycling route.

Additionally, an informal sports area and a children's play park will be positioned further from the Whaddon buffer, thus maintaining a wider separation between the two communities.

An open space near the Kingsmead Green houses at H6 Childs Way will also be designated as a recreational land away from the grid road reserve.

The SPD adoption for Shenley Park was approved at a Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet meeting.

After the assembly, Mr Peter Strachan, Cabinet Member for Planning and Regeneration, said: "We are grateful to all those who took the time to comment on the proposals and to give their feedback in our public consultation.

"As a result, some changes have been made to the original proposals which goes to show residents that your voice does count, and we listen to all suggestions and comments made."

He further added: "It is vitally important to us that the development at Shenley Park will create a vibrant new neighbourhood with high-quality homes and the accompanying amenities and infrastructure to meet the needs and aspirations of new and existing residents."

An application for planning has been submitted for the site already.

The SPD will inform the decision on this planning application.
