Police have launched an investigation into the cause of a fire in Buckinghamshire which killed a 62-year-old woman.

Thames Valley Police received a report of a fire at a flat in Butte Furlong, Haddenham, at around 1:45am today (February 15).

Two appliances and crews from the Bucks Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the blaze and firefighters forced entry into the flat.

They rescued one woman and provided her with immediate emergency care, but she sadly died at the scene.

Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.

One man was also treated for the effects of breathing in smoke and was passed into the care of the South Central Ambulance Service.

A Thames Valley Forensic Fire Investigation Officer reportedly attended the scene and is working alongside a fire investigating officer and Thames Valley Police Scene of Crime Officers to determine the cause of the fire.

A spokesperson for the police said: “An investigation is ongoing into the circumstances of (this) fire, but the death is being treated as unexplained and non-suspicious. A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
