The owner of a new South American steakhouse in High Wycombe is taking on the challenge to create something ‘for his family’.

Igor Oliveira, 38, opened the doors of Caipirao Steakhouse at 38 Frogmoor two weeks ago on Thursday, March 7.

The Brazilian native, who moved to the UK twenty years ago and has lived in Wycombe since 2009, worked as a taxi driver before chasing his dream of establishing a family business that offers a taste of “the best” South American cooking has to offer.

Keen not to limit the scope of his new enterprise, Igor also recruited an Italian chef friend to add a Mediterranean touch to the menu which ranges from Brazilian steak and burgers to authentic pizza and pasta dishes.

He said: “I’m new to this business, but at some point last year I said to myself, ‘I’m not doing anything for my family’. My kids were born here, and I want to pass this (restaurant) on to them.

“We’re focused on getting the best beef we can because the steak is our speciality, and luckily, we know a local butcher and lots of people in Wycombe.

“I’ve never worked so hard before but I’m not going to lie, I love cooking. I think it’s a Brazilian thing and I love that we have such a big community here.”

The past two weeks have been jam-packed, but in a positive way that has exceeded all of Igor’s expectations, he said.

“On opening night, we had a full house and ever since then, the feedback has been great. I was in shock, and I’m still so surprised!”

Although Caipirao is still a fledgling business, support from High Wycombe residents online has been unanimous in its praise, with one person dubbing it “the best restaurant” in the town.

Another reviewer said: “Amazing food and cocktails. Finally, a Latin place in Wycombe!”

A third added: “What an amazing Brazilian restaurant – the atmosphere is electric, the service is top-notch, and the food is just so good. A must-visit if you want a taste of the exotic.”

Caipirao Steakhouse opens for lunch at 12pm each day and closes at 10:30pm on Mondays, 11pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, midnight on Thursdays and Fridays, 12:30am on Saturdays and 9pm on Sundays.

An extensive cocktail and drinks menu is also available, and Igor is planning to regularly host live music events.
