A 92-year-old from Amersham was banned from driving after seriously injuring a man on the road.

Tony Pool, from Grove Road in Amersham, appeared before High Wycombe Magistrates' Court on November 27 last year.

There, he indicated a guilty plea to a charge of causing serious injury by careless or inconsiderate driving.

This was in connection with an incident in 2022.

On December 6 that year, Poole was driving a Peugeot 206 in Coker's Lane, Little Chalfont.

Magistrates found that, at the time, the defendant was driving without due care and attention.

He ran his car into another man.

The victim was seriously injured in the collision.

According to Crown Prosecution Service guidelines, the maximum penalty for the offence Poole pleaded guilty to is two years' imprisonment.

However, at the court hearing, it was decided that Poole would instead be handed a much lighter sentence.

This was on account of his age, as well as the fact he has no previous convictions of any kind. Poole was handed a 12-month driving ban, and a £200 fine.

In addition, he was ordered to pay £85 in court costs and an £80 victim surcharge.
