A GROUP of gardening volunteers have bagged themselves an unsung hero award for their tireless efforts to revitalise the Amersham Hospital site.

The Amersham Hospital Garden Volunteers have cinched the 'Volunteer Team of the Year' title at the Unsung Hero Awards.

The accolade is a recognition of their hard work over the past three years to maintain gardens and outdoor spaces across the hospital site in Whielden Street.

Their accomplishments were made possible through the broader assistance of the local community, charitable funds and the Trust's management board.

Hugh Chamberlain, Garden Volunteer said: "We all know how important beautiful and calming outside spaces are for our mental health and wellbeing, so we're all thrilled and delighted to have received this special award.

"It's such a lovely team to be part of and we all feel very proud of what we are achieving."

He added, the team find the work rewarding with positive responses from staff and patients who appreciate the transformation of the spaces into calming areas to rest and recharge.

Bridget O’Kelly, Chief People Officer at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, praised the team adding: "It's wonderful that the Garden Volunteers have been recognised for all their hard work over the last three years to rejuvenate various courtyard spaces for both patients and staff at Amersham Hospital.

"Hugh and the team are constantly thinking of new ideas, engaging with the local community, and putting the mental health and wellbeing of others at the forefront of their projects."
