A MAN has been fined more than £1,000 after failing to see an emergency police car on blue lights.

Zamir Berisha, 39, of Costons Lane, Greenford, London, was found guilty of one count of driving a mechanically propelled vehicle on a road without due care and attention at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on Friday, April 12.

He was ordered to pay a total of £1,110 in fines, surcharges and costs.

On the evening of July 28, 2023, Berisha was driving on the A413 Amersham Road in Chalfont St Giles when he failed to notice a marked police vehicle with activated lights and sirens behind him on its way to an emergency.

Police said Berisha was not checking his mirrors or paying due care and attention, he also overtook numerous other vehicles that had noticed the police vehicle and had pulled to the side of the road to let them pass.

Berisha was oblivious to the police car trying to get past.

This caused delays for officers attending the emergency and confusion among other motorists who he kept overtaking.

Investigating officer PC George Ward, based at Amersham police station, said: “I am pleased that the magistrates have found Zamir Berisha guilty and passed sentence in this case.

“The fact that Berisha was not paying attention to numerous other vehicles that had stopped to let the police vehicle past, and instead overtook them, is testament to his poor care and attention to his driving during this incident.

“When you see an emergency vehicle with blue lights and sirens activated, please allow them to pass when it is safe to do so. Seconds can make all the difference in such situations, and the delays that Berisha caused could have had a significant impact on the emergency we were attending.”
