Stark figures have laid bare the massive decline of Buckinghamshire' bus network.

New research by Friends of the Earth and the University of Leeds, which involved a huge and complex analysis of all available local and national timetable data in England and Wales over the last 15 years, has shown that while London has had an almost constant level of bus provision, many other parts of the country have seen declines of more than two-thirds.

Since 2010, bus service trips per hour in Bucks have declined by 28.6 per cent. In 2010 there were 296 trips her hour and in 2023 there were 211.

Windsor and Maidenhead has a huge decline in its bus services, with 70.5 per cent less bus services than 2010.

Last month, Arriva announced a shake up to its bus network, with Services 4 and 5 axed.

London Road in Wycombe Marsh will no longer be served by route 7 as well.

Resident Joan Heybourn said: "Seemn plenty of busses on some but lacking in others. Sad the bus I relied on for hospital and doctor surgery no longer does the same regular route, the changes seem for the worse.

"Bring back the No 8 to its original route and timetable. It saved me so much painful walking."

Anne Hawkins said: "My car broke down a few weeks ago and so needed to take the bus to work. First time in probably over 10 years. Unfortunately the bus did not turn up.

"I kept track of the buses, and no exaggeration here, it seemed the bus only turned up 50 per cent of the time! It simply does not seem to be something people can rely on."

Julian Walters echoed this: "The problem isn't the number of buses. It is the reliability and whether they even turn up.

"The bus app is useless and the displays at the bus stops invariably don't work."

Mark Whickman added: "Poor bus service impacts the Network effects of the whole transport service. I used to get the bus to a station to start journeys, now the bus is so infrequent and unreliable I either have to get a cab or drive to the station."

Arriva decline to comment.

Carousel Buses and Buckinghamshire Council has been approached for a comment.
